Faux face frame — the in-frame look on a flat slab

Faux face frame door in moisture-resistant MDF — angled view

Through-section

The faux face frame is our most contemporary slab: a single flat panel with a fine 3mm groove machined 25mm in from each edge, tracing a crisp rectangle around the face. It reads as an applied face frame or an in-frame door, but it's cut from one sheet — no applied parts, no mitres, nothing to telegraph through the paint.

Because the frame is incised rather than built up, the face stays dead-flat for a sprayed finish, and the groove holds a clean shadow line at any size. Order any size up to 1200 × 3030mm and we machine the groove to follow it — square or shaped (raked / splayed) heads alike.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is machined into the face?

One 3mm-wide groove, 6mm deep, set 25mm in from every edge — a single crisp rectangle tracing the face. Nothing is applied and nothing is proud of the surface, so the door still sprays like a slab.

Will it look like a real in-frame door?

It reads as an applied frame or an in-frame line from normal viewing distance, because what your eye reads is the shadow, not the joint. Up close it's obviously incised rather than built up — which is the point: no mitres, no applied parts, nothing to lift.

Does the groove follow a shaped head?

Yes. On a raked or splayed door the groove tracks the head at the same 25mm inset, so the rectangle becomes the same shape as the door rather than stopping square below the slope.

Are these made to measure?

Yes. Every door is CNC-machined one-piece from moisture-resistant MDF to your exact width and height — enter the size in the configurator and the price updates as you type.

How are they made?

From a single sheet of ultra-high-density MR MDF, so there are no mitred corner joints to open or shadow through your paint.
